Corporate funding is ordinary for companies like Havila Kystruten. Vessels are financed by leasing contracts for an agreed period. Havila Kystruten has an option to purchase vessels after two years of delivery of each vessel and an obligation to purchase after 10 years.

The financing of the company is done through leasing companies registered in Hong Kong for Havila Capella and Havila Castor and in Ireland for Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux. As Havila Capella and Havila Castor are chartered by companies outside the EU, the company applied for and obtained approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries for the registration of vessels in Norway . Havila Capella sails under the Norwegian flag in accordance with Norwegian legislation (Sjøloven). The Norwegian flag will also apply to all ships.

The situation that has arisen is unfortunate for Havila Kystruten, which complies with the current regulations implemented by the authorities in Norway and other countries. The owner of the leasing companies in Hong Kong and Ireland is Russian GTLK. GTLK is not sanctioned and therefore does not interfere with the business activities of Havila Kystruten and the company’s business partners in the course of their normal business activities. Finance-related transactions with leasing companies in Hong Kong and Ireland go through reputable European banks.
